Preparing Your PCs for Windows 11: Your RAG Report Explained

We are currently in the process of sending each client a personalised RAG report – a spreadsheet that flags every desktop and laptop in your fleet as green, amber or red based on Windows 11 readiness.

Upgrading to Windows 11 is not just a tick-box exercise. It’s an opportunity to make sure your entire fleet of desktops and laptops is fit for purpose, whether your team are light-use workers or power user

What the colours mean

  • Green (Good)
Devices less than four years old, with CPU, RAM and storage all meeting or exceeding Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements. These machines should sail through the upgrade with no performance hiccups.
  • Amber (Watch)
Devices between four and five years old. They meet the minimum specs but may start to struggle once you’re running demanding applications alongside Windows 11. A RAM boost or SSD upgrade often makes the difference.
  • Red (Replace)
Devices over five years old or lacking key features (such as TPM 2.0 support). These are at risk of poor performance or compatibility issues. We recommend replacement to avoid downtime.

Every colour comes with nuance. A green-rated laptop used solely for email and web browsing could stay in service longer than one used for heavy spreadsheet work. Likewise, an amber machine with only 8 GB of RAM might be fine for document editing, but sluggish when running data analysis tools. We’re here to help you interpret your report and draw up a plan tailored to each role in your business.

Why 14 October 2025 matters

On 14 October 2025 Microsoft will end support for Windows 10. After that date security patches and feature updates will cease, leaving unpatched devices vulnerable. Upgrading before then ensures uninterrupted protection and performance. B2B IT Services can manage the entire process, from pilot upgrades to full fleet rollout, so your team stays focused on core business activities, not IT headaches.

Hardware offers and upgrades

We have access to a wide range of IT suppliers who give our clients market-leading offers on both desktops and laptops. Whether you need quotes for a fleet of Dell slimline towers or lightweight notebooks, we’ll get you competitive pricing fast.

If you’d rather extend the life of existing kit, we can upgrade RAM (turn 8 GB into 16 GB in most cases) or swap in SSDs to breathe new life into amber-rated machines.

Some clients are seizing this moment to move towards more mobile setups. A laptop plus docking station gives users the flexibility to switch between office and home without compromise.

“We’ve seen clients gain in productivity just by upgrading to SSDs and boosting their RAM,” says Mark Williams, client service manager at b2b IT Services. “It’s a small investment that pays dividends in day-to-day efficiency – and reduces the annoyance-factor.”

“For many businesses, Windows 11 is the perfect prompt to rethink their hardware strategy,” adds Mark Williams. “Whether that is moving to desk-dock workflows or simply replacing ageing laptops, our goal is always to keep our clients operationally ready.”
